• Our winter issue, Laine 23, Borealis, takes you to the snowy countryside on one of the coldest days of the year. The warm, cozy and beautiful knits include many winter wardrobe staples, such as an all-over colourwork sweater, a cabled hat and a chunky, textured cardigan. The serene stillness captured in this edition's photography soothes your mind and senses.

• Designers featured in this issue: Pablo Aneiros, Kaori Katsurada, Liza Lewis, Hiromi Nagasawa, Sara Ottosson, Camille Romano, Macarena Silva, Lis Smith, Florence Spurling, Vibe Ulrik Søndergaard and Tess Vandekolk.

Our winter issue features knits with elaborate and beautiful textures. Kaori Katsurada's Cinnamon Twists raglan sweater is worked in a combination of twisted stitches and cables, while Sara Ottosson's Brick Road scarf features slipped stitches creating diagonal lines on top of a garter-stitch base.

In addition to well-established knitwear designers, Laine wants to highlight up-and-coming names that we hope to see more of in the future. In this issue, we meet Liza Lewis, whose stunning colourwork sweater Dazzler is her first-ever published pattern! Liza is a designer/illustrator whose work includes children's books, for example.

It's always inspiring to see how designers can create something unique with seemingly simple ideas. The striking feature of Vibe Ulrik Søndergaard's Unfold sweater's is the deep, wide collar, while the Cora vest by Pablo Aneiros has an interesting construction: the rectangular-shaped vest is open at the sides and tied with narrow knitted ribbons.

"The January photo shoot was probably the coldest in my modeling career, and it was great to warm up inside the Bosgård Manor between the outdoor shots. The idyllic, quiet place almost made me dream of moving to the countryside.”

"The most touching story in this issue was the article by Amelia Hodsdon about Loose Ends: an international charity who helps to complete unfinished craft projects left behind by loved ones who have passed away. We get to read about a very special blanket that a volunteer knitter finished out of the kindness of her heart. I was moved to tears while editing the text.”
